Vacancies for Unpaid Voluntary Play and Youth Workers

WE CAN HELP YOU TO:

Gain skills as a Play and Youth Worker in the voluntary sector. We can provide you with training, in-house and by local county, and the chance to gain NVQ - qualifications that you can add to your CV for employment!

Receive a DBS
Certificate that will also look good on your employment CV.

Qualify in Youth Leader Training and Holiday Work. Time off work can be arranged with your employer and nationally recognised schemes (like the Prince's Trust for Youth Volunteers) could give you up to 5 days a week paid time off of work (please enquire with your employer).


Conditions:

  • All applicants will be expected to undergo CRB Checks and to be registered as a Leader with Boys' Brigade Headquarters.
  • Approval of the applicant will be by the Company Chaplain and Company Captain.
  • A supervised trial period would be arranged prior to any application being made.
  • All jobs are voluntary, without pay, and require a high level of commitment.
  • Previous experience in youth work including BB & GB would be an advantage.


We currently have vacancies for the following leaders:

Anchor Boys (Working with 5's to 7's.) - Mondays from 6:00-7:30pm
A001 -
Group Leader in Charge (Uniform post)
A committed Christian or adherent who would take responsibility for running a Monday evening programme, organising staff and providing a series of planned programme to cover the 6 school terms based on our Activity Award Scheme. The programme would run from 6-7.30pm and advanced preparation would be required. This post is for a trained Leader who would need to undertake Brigade Training at one of our training centres.

A002 -
Art & Craft or All-round Leader.
We need one or two enthusiasts to run a series of art and craft subjects, and also run a few small games based on our Activity Award Scheme. This includes preparation and sourcing of subject matter and materials. Approximate time of activity per week = 10-15 minutes.

A003 -
Football Coach (see J001 below)
We also would like a suitable adult to instruct boys on football skills and team playing. This could be a weekend activity lasting no more than 60 minutes. The activity would take place on Weston Recreation Ground. Previous experience working with young children would be desirable and references would be required.

Band (Working with 8's to 18's) - Fridays from 6:30 to 7:45pm
B001 -
Band Leader - Conductor
We need an enthusiastic qualified/semi-qualified Conductor to co-ordinate the band and to devise new display marching routines and show routines and to encourage band membership. It's desirable that the incumbent has previous experience in marching or school bands.

B002 -
Music Teacher - Brass (Valve Instruments)
We need a qualified/semi-qualified instructor to teach the Trumpet Section of our Band; to devise a new repertoir and to bring on Boys through music gradings. It's desirable that the incumbent has previous experience in marching or school bands.

B003 -
Music Teacher - Woodwind
We need a qualified/semi-qualified instructor to teach the Saxophone Section of our Band (B flat and E flat); to devise a new repertoir and to bring on Boys through music gradings. It's desirable that the incumbent has previous experience in marching or school bands.

B004 -
Music Teacher - Percussion
We need a qualified/semi-qualified instructor to teach modern rythmns and beats in the Percussion Section of our Band; to devise a new repertoir and to liaise with the Brass and Woodwind teachers.

Juniors (Working with 8's to 10's) - Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:30pm
J001 -

J002 -

J003 -
Group Assistant Leader (Play Worker)
We need an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to take assist the Leader of this group and to help provide a structured, exciting and imaginative programme, aided by a small group of junior staff. The section needs to expand and the assistant leader is expected to be proactive in devising ways of attracting new boys into membership. Ideally the assistant leader needs to live in Weston Village, or nearby, and to be the focal point of this group.

Seniors (Working with 11's to 19's) - Fridays from 8:00 to 10:00pm and occasional weekends
S001 - Sports Coaches
We need a number of Coaches with relevant qualifications and experience of working with children and young people in the following subjects. Sessions will run for 30-45 minutes per week over the school academic year.

  • S001a - Sailing
  • S001b - Rowing
